All about us
We are a small friendly Club first set up in 2002 which has grown steadily and now has over 40 members. We aim to make everyone's experience of paddling enjoyable, challenging and fun. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have, listen to any suggestions for Club activities, and help with advice on any aspect of the sport. We have recently started a junior section and this is growing fast.
Here in Pembrokeshire we are lucky to have the best variety of paddling opportunities in the UK with fantastic sea, white water, inland placid water and great surf beaches. We take advantage of this throughout the year by organising regular sessions for surfing, sea kayaking, river running etc. We also hold socials, barbecues etc.
The Club runs swimming pool sessions in the colder seasons to teach general canoeing/kayaking skills, safety, and rolling. The sessions are organised by qualified coaches to be enjoyable and instructive so that novices can work towards qualifications. More experienced paddlers can polish their skills, and everyone has fun.
For the pool sessions you only need to bring your swimming kit and towel as everything else is provided. If you have your own boat then this can be used, but it must be spotless inside and out, before it will even be allowed in the pool building! There is a charge for pool sessions to cover pool hire costs. A new course of beginners pool sessions is run each March. Please contact us if you want to take part. For more details on events we have an events page which is open to all members.
We have had funding from Sports Council Wales for boats etc., so that we can lend beginners all the equipment they need to get started. Again there is a standard charge for this so that we can periodically replace the kit.
See the page on "What to Wear", but generally wear clothes you don't mind getting wet. For longer outdoor trips you will need to bring a change of clothes and towel in a bin bag, and food that you want in a waterproof container. You will need to wear several warm layers, a waterproof cagoule type top, and trainers or plimsoles that you don’t mind getting wet. From November to May a wetsuit is essential. In the summer remember a sun hat and sunscreen.
We have lots of boats, and equipment, but don’t run it around if it's not going to be used, so please book by phone when you know you will definitely be coming to an event. Details of who to contact are on the programme, or on the events page of this website. We want everyone to paddle as often as possible so if you book a boat be sure to turn up or let the organiser know if you change your plans, so that someone else can have the boat.
We take our responsibilities to junior members, and to each other, seriously and you will find the most important club policies and guidance published on this website. We also have a Club welfare Officer and their contact details are on the website if you have any concerns or need advice on Welfare issues.
We hope you have a great time with the club and look forward to seeing you on the water very soon. If you have any questions, worries, complaints or want to praise us please see the contacts page and we will do our level best to help you.
Happy Paddling!
